‘렉서스 대표 SUV’ 신형 RX 출시…가격은 7610~8600만원
렉서스를 대표하는 SUV 모델인 RX가 풀체인지를 통해 새롭게 변신했다.
렉서스코리아는 17일, 신라호텔에서 신형 RX를 출시하고 본격적인 판매에 나섰다. 오늘부터 사전계약이 시작되며 고객 인도는 3월 이후부터다.
이번에 출시된 신형 RX는 작년 4월 ‘2015 뉴욕모터쇼’에서 공개된 중형 SUV로, 커진 차체에 이전 모델에서 느낄 수 없는 파격적인 디자인 변화와 고급스러운 실내 사양이 적용된게 특징이다.
차체는 이전 모델보다 전장과 전폭, 전고, 휠베이스가 각각 120mm, 10mm, 20mm, 50mm씩 커졌는데, 전체적인 디자인은 훨씬 스포티한 느낌을 준다. 렉서스를 상징하는 스핀들 그릴을 이전모델보다 더욱 크게 강조하고, L자 형상의 트리플 빔 LED 헤드램프와 화살촉 형상의 LED 주간 주행등을 적용한 덕분이다.
실내도 더욱 고급스럽게 변했다. 센터페시아와 암레스트를 중심으로 운전석과 조수석 공간이 나눠졌는데, 특히 센터페시아 인포테인먼트 시스템 및 공조기 컨트롤러 등의 운전자 중심 설계가 돋보인다. 대시보드 상단엔 12.3인치 디스플레이가 장착됐는데, 이 디스플레이를 통해 탑승자는 내비게이션과 인포테인먼트 시스템 등을 조작할 수 있다.
신형 RX는 RX350와 RX450h 등 2가지로 나왔다. RX350은 V6 3.5리터 가솔린 엔진과 8단 자동변속기가 조합돼 최고출력 300마력을, 하이브리드 버전인 RX450h는 V6 3.5리터 엔진과 전기 모터가 결합돼 시스템출력 300마력을 낸다.
여기에 차체 역학 통합 제어 시스템, 전자식 가변 서스펜션, 차선 이탈 경고 시스템, 자동 브레이크 등 다양한 주행 안전 장치가 적용됐다.
신형 RX의 가격은 RX450h의 경우 슈프림(표준형) 7610만원, 이그제큐티브(고급형) 8600만원, F스포트 8600만원이며, RX350은 이그제큐티브(고급형) 8070만원이다.
렉서스코리아 관계자는 “지속적으로 성장하고 있는 국내 프리미엄 SUV 시장을 공략하기 위해 신형 RX의 상품성과 가격 경쟁력을 크게 높였다”고 설명했다.

저번 자동차 리뷰는 렉서스 세단과 스포츠카 리뷰를 끝내고 렉서스 suv로 넘어왔었다. 지난 시간에는 렉서스 스포츠카 lc 컨버터블을 리뷰하였었고 다음은 렉서스 nx 300 중형 suv를 리뷰했었다. 렉서스 스포츠카를 리뷰할 땐 저번 슈퍼카 맥라렌이 생각났는데 lc 컨버터블이 퀄리티는 조금 떨어지나 나름 괜찮은 스포츠카였었다. 그리고 렉서스 nx suv를 리뷰하면서 역시 실용성과 안정성에서는 suv만 한 차가 없다는 걸 다시 한번 깨달았다. 그래도 기회가 된다면 현재 세컨드카도 suv여서 스포츠카를 구매하고 싶은 충동이 훨씬 크다.

오늘은 어제 리뷰했었던 렉서스 중형 suv nx보다 한 등급 높은 렉서스 준대형 suv rx를 리뷰하려 한다. 렉서스 rx가 확실히 등급이 높아서 그런지 퀄리티가 조금 더 나아 보이는 듯하다. 하지만 생김새가 너무 비슷해 큰 차이는 없어 보인다. 렉서스 rx 350 전면 디자인은 복잡해 보이는 듯하면서 단순한 모습이라고도 볼 수 있는데 럭셔리함이 강한 suv라고 할 수 있다. 전면 프런트 뷰 렉서스 rx 심벌은 뭐니 뭐니 해도 라디에이터 그릴이고 그 외 적으로 헤드램프나 포그램프는 부수적인 부분으로 조합이 잘 맞는다.

렉서스 rx 350 측면 디자인은 쿠페형 suv처럼 보닛도 슬림하고 트렁크 라인도 날렵한 모습이다. 측면에서도 내가 뽑은 포인트 부분은 c필러에서 시작되어 리어램프까지 라인인데 차가 길어 보이는 효과 그리고 라인 디테일이 살아 있는 모습이다. 렉서스 rx는 준대형 suv인데도 마치 대형 suv 같은 크기를 가지고 있다. 전체적인 측면 디자인 평가는 100점 만점에 90점 이상은 된다는 게 내 생각이다. 렉서스 rx 350 휠은 20인치가 장착되어 나온다.

렉서스 rx 후면 디자인을 보면 제일 먼저 생각나는 게 견고함 탄탄함이 떠오른다. 렉서스는 내구성도 뛰어나지만 익스테리어에서 풍기는 단단하고 안정감 있는 모습도 구매 욕구를 자극하지 않나 싶다. 무엇보다 리어뷰는 리어램프가 디자인에서 많은 비중을 차지하는데 rx 350 리어램프는 평범한 수준이라고 생각한다. 솔직히 리어뷰는 어제 리뷰했던 렉서스 nx가 더 나아 보인다. 다음 세대에서는 리어램프 변화가 필요하고 시급하다는 생각이 든다.

실내 및 시트
렉서스 rx는 실내 인테리어는 렉서스만의 개성이 돋보인다고 할 수 있겠다. 어떻게 보면 복잡하지 않은 평범한 실내일 수도 있으나 고급스러움도 조금은 묻어 있는 모습이다. 스티어링 휠에 있는 렉서스 엠블럼이 가장 큰 인테리어 효과가 있는 것 같다. 그리고 내 마음에 드는 분은 클래식한 시계와 센터 디스플레이다. 렉서스 rx 350 시트 포지션은 suv 치고는 높은 편은 아니고 시트 착좌감이나 승차감도 괜찮은 편이다. 끝으로 렉서스 rx는 가격대만 조금 낮으면 더 인기가 더 많을 거라 생각하고 나는 이 가격이면 독 3사를 선택할 것 같다.

[MUSIC PLAYING] TRAVIS LANGNESS: If you’ve been in the market for a luxury crossover any time in the last 20 years, you’re probably familiar with what’s behind me. The Lexus RX. This is the new 2020 RX 350, the F sport in this particular case. It’s got some new details. We’re going to check out what this mid-cycle refresh is all about and see what’s new. [MUSIC PLAYING] Since it’s one of Lexus’ top selling models, and one of the top selling luxury vehicles in America, they haven’t really messed with the formula on this one. There are small changes to the front bumper and headlights, as well as the rear bumper, exhaust pipes, but the profile of this car stays the same. It was only redesigned four years ago, so they’re not going to mess with success. And that’s it on the outside. Sure, you get some new wheels, but if you see the 2019 and 2020 model next to each other in a parking lot, you might have a hard time telling them apart. That’s because the side profile is pretty much the same. But everything up front looks a little bit sleeker, more grown up, which is strange to say about a luxury vehicle. I think it’s a big improvement for this Lexus. Under the hood, you get the same choice of engines as you did last year. There’s a 3.5 liter V6 that puts out about 295 horsepower, as well as another 3.5 liter V6 paired with two electric motors for the hybrid model. That puts out about 310 horsepower. Both of those engines get the same horsepower and fuel economy ratings as the previous model year. Under the car and the suspension bits things have changed a little bit more. The F-sport is actually now broken into two different packages. You can get the appearance package or the performance package. And the performance package includes an adaptive suspension sourced from the Lexus LC. They’re big sporty grand coupe. On the safety front, there’s new equipment too. All Lexus RX models get the Safety System Plus 2.0, which includes cool stuff like Cyclist Detection and Pedestrian Detection. Great when you add it to the already full list of safety features available on our models. Along with the tech updates and the things on the outside, there’s some styling changes on the inside in the form of a couple of new interior colors like this red, as well as a couple of different options for paint. You also get Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. A first for this car. As well as this 12.3 inch optional touchscreen that moves 5 and 1/2 inches closer to the driver, not just controlled by this frustrating to use touchpad. That’s going to be a big difference and might just change the game for the RX. So should you buy a new 2020 Lexus RX? Well, depends on what you want out of your luxury crossover. This one’s well rounded. It’s got lots of great standard and optional equipment, but it’s not the sportiest in the bunch, despite the F-sport name. Other vehicles like the Audi Q5 might be better at that. And if you’re looking at the long version, the RX 350L, you might look at something with more space in the back like an Audi Q7 or an XC 90 from Volvo. Those are going to be less cramped in the third row. And if you’re looking at hybrid models, we also recommend a vehicle like the Acura MDX Sport Hybrid or the XC 90 T8 hybrid. But if you want a well-rounded luxury crossover, take a look at the RX. We think it’s worth your time. 최근 국내외 자동차 품질 평가 조사를 살펴보면 럭셔리를 표방하는 자동차들이 의외로 스트레스 지수가 높아 의아하다. 럭셔리 자동차라면서 품질문제로 운전자를 괴롭히거나 주행성, 거주성이 특정 계층만을 만족시키는 황당한 경우도 있다. 그런 면에서 볼 때 렉서스 ES350은 진정한 럭셔리라 할 수 있다. 모든 면에서 스트레스가 적은 차인데다 호화스러움도 맛볼 수 있게 하기 때문이다.
렉서스는 신형 GS를 시작으로 역동성과 퍼포먼스를 전면에 내세우며 이미지 변화를 꾀하고 있다. 그래서 최근 출시된 렉서스의 신차를 타보면 조금은 야성미도 느껴진다. 하지만 모든 소비자들이 다이내믹함을 선호하지는 않는다. 오히려 브랜드 이미지가 급변하면 소비자들이 반감을 느끼기 쉽다는 점도 고려됐다.
그래서 렉서스는 신형 ES를 통해 경우의 수를 넓혔다. 기존 렉서스가 가지고 있던 특성을 고스란히 살리면서도 이미지 변신을 추구했다. 브랜드의 이미지 변화나 방향성보다는 많이 팔릴 차를 만들겠다는 의지가 더 강해 보인다.

◆ 과장되지 않은 디자인, 화려함보단 고급스러움이 강조
렉서스의 새로운 디자인 방향성에 따라 강한 인상을 발산하는 ‘스핀들 그릴’이 적용됐다. 신형 GS, RX, LS 등을 통해 꾸준하게 봐온 탓인지 낯설음은 많이 사라졌다. 또 신형 ES에 와서는 스핀들 그릴이 더욱 자연스럽게 녹아들었다. 그러면서도 이전 모델의 흔적을 교묘하게 남겼다.

앞모습은 크게 바뀌었지만 옆모습이나 뒷모습은 큰 변화가 없다. 무난함이 강조됐다. 이전 모델에 비해서는 역동성이 강조됐다지만 렉서스 특유의 부드러움을 디자인에서도 느낄 수 있다. 선보다는 부드러운 면이 강조됐고 기본적인 세단의 형태를 갖췄다. 무던한 디자인은 쉽게 질리지 않는다. 화려함은 없지만 고급스러움은 잘 배어있다.
앞모습은 입체적이면서도 세부적인 완성도도 높다. 촘촘한 그릴은 구석구석 부드럽게 잘 만들어졌고 헤드램프의 디테일도 새롭다. 화살촉 같은 LED 주간주행등은 강인한 인상을 주면서도 세련됨이 강조됐다. 범퍼 하단을 돌출시켜서 차체가 넓고 역동적인 느낌이 들게끔 했다.

날렵하게 뻗은 C필러도 인상적이고 과장되지 않은 캐릭터라인도 렉서스 특유의 멋을 잘 나타낸다. 외관 곳곳에는 공기저항 향상을 위한 에어로 핀이 적용됐고 하이브리드차처럼 뒷범퍼쪽을 반듯하게 깎았다. 렉서스 ES는 화려하진 않지만 섬세함이 돋보인다.
◆ 렉서스 특유의 고급스러움과 편의성을 갖춘 실내
실내 디자인은 렉서스 고유의 모습을 그대로 간직했다. 고급스러움과 편의성, 간결함 등을 두루 갖췄다. 프리미엄급 세단 중에서도 렉서스의 디자인이나 마감은 수준이 상당히 높다. 손톱이 들어갈 틈도 없이 각 부분은 꽉 짜여있다. 완성도 면에서는 유럽 프리미엄 브랜드를 능가한다. 하지만 ES는 GS에 비해서는 고급스러움이 다소 떨어졌고 원가절감의 흔적도 곳곳에서 보인다.

실내에서 가장 눈에 잘 띄는 대시보드, 센터페시아와 스티어링휠, 기어노브 등 손이 가장 많이 닿는 부분은 특히 고급스러움이 강조됐다. 또 가죽이 사용된 부분에는 어김없이 촘촘한 스티치로 마무리됐다.
보이지 않는 곳이나 손이 잘 닿지 않는 부분의 마감도 꼼꼼하다. 조립품질은 최상급으로 허술한 곳을 찾아보기 쉽지 않다.
하지만 6천만원대의 프리미엄 세단임에도 플라스틱 부품을 쉽게 찾아볼 수 있다. 최고급소재와 플라스틱이 공존해 더욱 눈에 잘 띈다.

실내공간에서는 부족함을 찾아보기 힘들다. 이전 모델에 비해 휠베이스가 45mm 길어졌고 공간배치를 새롭게 해 더욱 실내공간을 넓혔다. 뒷좌석 시트의 등받이 두께를 줄여 이전 모델에 비해 뒷좌석 무릎공간은 71mm, 발 공간은 104mm 확대됐다고 도요타 측은 밝혔다.

◆ 부족함 없는 동력성능, 정숙성과 안락함은 기본
ES는 렉서스에서 가장 많이 판매되는 모델이지만 사실 렉서스 다른 모델과는 가장 동떨어진 성격의 차다. 렉서스의 유일한 전륜구동 모델이어서다.
도시오아사히 렉서스 수석 엔지니어는 “캠리의 플랫폼을 더욱 넓혔고 고장력강판을 적극 활용해 차체 강성을 높혔다”면서 “스팟 용접 기술로 더욱 견고한 차체를 만들었다”고 밝혔다.

주행 감성은 캠리와 비슷한 느낌이다. 충북 제천의 아름다운 청풍호 주변을 감싸는 와인딩로드에서 ES350을 극한의 상황까지 몰아붙였다. 급격하게 꺾인 코너도 비교적 잘 빠져나가지만 민첩한 편은 아니다. 고속으로 코너에 들어서면 언더스티어가 약간씩 발생해 차체가 코너 바깥쪽으로 슬슬 밀려나는 느낌이 든다. 주목적은 편안하고 안락한 세단이라는 점을 감안하면 이 정도 언더스티어가 억제된 것은 훌륭한 수준이다.
ES350에 장착된 3.5리터 V6 듀얼 VVT-i 가솔린 엔진은 최고출력 277마력, 최대토크 35.3kg·m의 성능을 발휘한다. 충분한 엔진 덕에 쭉 뻗은 고속도로에서 속도를 올리는 느낌은 호쾌하다. 에코, 노멀, 스포츠 등 3가지로 설정이 가능한 주행모드를 스포츠로 변경하면 경쾌해진 엔진소리와 함께 즉각적인 반응을 맛볼 수 있다.

엔진회전수를 무리하게 올리지 않아도 속도는 꾸준하게 올라간다. 부드러운 고속주행이야말로 렉서스의 가장 큰 특징이다. 이와 함께 이전 모델에 비해 고속안정성도 크게 개선됐다. 안정적인 고속주행을 통해 실내 거주성을 한층 더 높였다. 조용하고 안락한 실내는 굳이 설명할 필요가 없다.
◆ 모든 면에서 평균 이상…완성도 높은 신형 ES
렉서스 ES는 스트레스가 적은 차다. 여러 가지 측면에서 평균 이상이다. 누구나 만족할 수 있도록 만들어졌다. 또 큰 장점보다는 작은 단점 하나 찾기 힘든 것이 신형 ES의 높은 완성도를 설명해준다.
소비자들의 반응은 매우 호의적이다. 마치 신형 ES를 손꼽아 기다린 듯하다. 렉서스 측에 따르면 월 판매목표는 500대지만 이미 사전계약이 1000대 넘게 성사됐다. 렉서스 신형 ES350의 판매가격은 개별소비세 인하분을 적용해 ES350 슈프림 5630만원, 익스클루시브 6230만원이다.

The BMW X5 finishes ahead of the Lexus RX in our luxury midsize SUV rankings , though both vehicles are appealing. The BMW has a range of powertrain options, including two performance-oriented M models with V8 engines that are stronger than anything you’ll find in the RX. The X5 is also more fun to drive, and its infotainment system is easier to use. On the other hand, the Lexus’ base trim costs significantly less (by more than $10K).

Lexus RX 350 vs. Lexus RX Hybrid
Aside from the powertrain, the Lexus RX Hybrid is nearly identical to the RX. As such, the only thing that really separates the RX 350 from the RX 450h is that the latter gets better fuel economy estimates. Still, the most efficient version of each SUV has the same annual fuel cost estimates, according to the EPA. Since there’s not much savings to be had at the pump, it’s hard to justify the RX Hybrid’s higher price tag.

While it can’t match the quality of some German competitors’ interiors, the RX’s cabin is attractive and well-built, and it incorporates plenty of luxe materials.
RX 350 Infotainment, Bluetooth, and Navigation
Though some rivals have newer infotainment systems, the Lexus’ standard system is user-friendly and intuitive, and the touch screen is within easy reach of the driver.
While the upgraded system features a larger screen, it also comes with the Remote Touch controller, which you may not want to use because it makes operating the system more difficult. Fortunately, between the touch screen and smartphone connectivity features, you can avoid the Remote Touch controller most of the time.

RX 350 Cargo Space
Several class rivals make better cargo haulers than this Lexus. In standard models, the RX gives you 18.4 cubic feet of room behind the second-row seats and 56.3 cubic feet with the second row folded down. The three-row RX L provides about 7.5 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rearmost seats, around 23 cubic feet with the third row folded, and up to 58.5 cubic feet with both rear rows folded down.
How Many People Does the RX 350 Seat?
The standard Lexus RX seats five people, while the three-row Lexus RX L seats six or seven, depending on configuration. You’ll have no complaints about the first two rows, as they provide ample space and have comfortable cushions. The third-row seats in L models are a different story. They’re tiny, and adults will feel cramped back there.
RX 350 and Child Car Seats
There are two complete sets of LATCH connectors for the RX 350’s rear outboard seats. There’s also a tether anchor for the rear middle seat, and you can borrow lower anchors from each side. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gave this LATCH system the highest rating of Good+, which indicates that it’s among the easiest and most versatile to use.

RX 350 Performance: A Comfortable Cruising Vehicle
RX 350 Engine
All RX 350 models feature the same powertrain, which is composed of a 295-horsepower V6 engine and an eight-speed automatic transmission. This luxury crossover SUV offers strong acceleration, both from a stop and when getting up to highway speeds. The automatic transmission is refined, but it occasionally hunts for the right gear.

RX 350 Gas Mileage
The base RX gets 20 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway, which are good ratings for the class. L models get nearly the same ratings: 19/26 mpg city/highway. With both body styles, opting for all-wheel drive instead of front-wheel drive drops fuel economy by about 1 mpg.
RX 350 Ride and Handling
The Lexus RX isn’t particularly athletic, but it has controlled body motions when heading around corners. It also manages to deliver a pampering ride over most road surfaces. FWD is standard, and AWD is available.

The 2022 Lexus RX 350 comes in three trims: base, L, and F Sport. The RX 350 and RX 350 F Sport are two-row SUVs, while the RX 350 L is a three-row SUV. All trims come standard with a 3.5-liter V6 engine that makes 295 horsepower in the RX 350 and F Sport and 290 horsepower in the RX L. An eight-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive are standard throughout. All-wheel drive is optional for an additional $1,400. We review the hybrid Lexus RX 450h separately.
Unless you need the extra seats of the RX L or like the sporty performance upgrades afforded by the RX F Sport, you’ll probably be happy with the base model. Thanks to the many packages and individual options available for all trims, you can pick and choose the amenities you want to stay within your budget.

For $2,285, the Navigation package adds a 12.3-inch touch screen, the Remote Touch controller, navigation, and a 12-speaker premium stereo. Another package pairs those features with a 15-speaker Mark Levinson surround-sound stereo for $3,365.
You can get heated front seats for $440 or heated and ventilated front seats for $640. A $1,480 bundle contains heated and ventilated front seats along with a power-folding second row and heated second-row seats. A moonroof is $1,350, a panoramic roof is $1,850, and wireless device charging is $200. A hands-free power liftgate is $150.
For optional driver assistance features, a head-up display costs $600, and $565 gets you front and rear parking sensors and reverse automatic emergency braking. You can get those parking assist features plus a surround-view parking camera system for $1,365.
The RX 350 L starts at $48,150 and gains a power-folding and reclining third row, tri-zone automatic climate control, two second-row USB ports, and a second-row armrest.
The RX L offers the same optional features as the base model, and second-row captain’s chairs are available for $405.
The RX 350 F Sport retails for $48,800. Its added features include enhanced exterior styling, front sport seats, a performance suspension, an F Sport steering wheel, aluminum pedals, and performance instrumentation. The F Sport Handling package ($1,050) contains a sport-tuned adaptive suspension, a heated steering wheel, sport-tuned steering, and an additional Sport S+ drive mode.
